Welcome to the Aplington Public Library!

Explore the history of Butler County, Iowa and the Prohibition with us on Monday, March 30th at 7:00 pm. Linda Betsinger McCann will discuss her books Prohibition in Eastern Iowa as well as Lost Butler County, Vanished Towns of the Cedar Valley.

Author Linda McCannLinda will share stories of how she researched for her books and the interesting things she found along the way.

Prohibition in Eastern Iowa looks at the 13 year span of time known as "Prohibition" through the lens of Eastern Iowa townspeople and others.  From farmers who grew corn used in making illegal liquor, to the bootleggers who trafficked it and the gangsters who sold it, Eastern Iowa saw its fair share!

Lost Butler County -These lost towns may no longer be on any Iowa map, but they remain forever etched in the memory of the community.  Wind back the clock in the Cedar Valley to a time when Butler Center was the center of Butler County, Iowa and Fort Eads and Pilot Rock were useful directions instead of faded memories.

Linda Betsinger McCann is a native Iowan who continues to live in Iowa by choice. Her ancestors settled in Iowa by the 1850s. Linda has been doing genealogy for about thirty years and recently traced a line to George Soule, who arrived on the Mayflower.

This program is sponsored by Aplington Historical Society and Friends of Aplington Public Library.
