Join Friends of the Library
Presently 70+ community members comprise the Friends of the Library, a nonprofit advocacy organization which supports the Library. Our volunteer members advocate, educate, and raise funds on behalf of the Library, its patrons, and the community.
- Officers are Jennifer Kramer, president, Scott Summers, vice-president, and Jaimi Vander Berg, secretary. Presently the following community members are serving on the 9-member board: Marvin Boelman, Martha Johnson, Barb Jungling, Jennifer Kramer, Mary Oler, Connie Reynolds, Diane Schipper, Scott Summers, and Jaimi Vander Berg. In addition, Virginia Kalkward serves as the organization's bookkeeper.
- Fund raising activities typically include Christmas gift baskets in December and conducting a book sale in the spring. The Friends also provide the necessary manpower to recycle pop cans which is instrumental in providing updated technology for our library.
Services that the Friends provide is the Books for Babies project, providing snacks for children's programs, and the annual library shelf cleaning in the fall. The Books for Babies project aims to deliver a tote full of baby related items to each baby born in the Aplington area. If you know of a child recently born in the area, please contact the library so that they may be presented with this gift tote!
- To join the Friends of the Library simply stop by the library and ask for information about the Friends. A tan registration form is available by the circulation desk as well as a sheet outlining options for volunteer service. Yearly membership dues are $5 unless one desires to be a life-time member. Life-time memberships are $100. Presently there are 12 life-time members.
