75th Anniversary Celebration

Seventy-five years ago, in 1939, a group of community and educationally-minded women had the desire to begin a lending library. You are invited to the 75th Anniversary celebration.

Thus the first library in Aplington was begun by the Woman's Club. Located on the front porch of the75th Anniversary home of a club member, Mrs. Kathryn Popkes, many of the books came from the State Traveling Library and the library was operated by volunteers from the Woman's Club.  In 1940 the City of Aplington took over the operation of the library, appropriating money and appointing a library board to oversee its operation.  Thus began a 75-year-long history that we will celebrate on Saturday, Nov.8 from 10:00 – 1:00 p.m. Pumpkin pie will be served, demonstrations are being developed, book bags will be given as gifts, drawings (one for adults and one for children) will be conducted, and game sheets will be available.  Plan now to attend this 75th Anniversary celebration!  Something for everyone!
